African Development through Entrepreneurship and Financial Innovation

SEMINAR ON 12TH February, 2014
BY:
Ousmane Diagne, Investment Manager and Principal, Timbuktu Capital Management, LLC, Boston, USA
Abstract:
The talk looked into ways African Development could be a reality through the combination of entrepreneurship and innovation in ways of gathering capital to fund promising entrepreneurs. As African countries have tried various systems, copied from other parts of the world with little success, it is time for the African youth to come up with innovative systems to foster economic development. One example of those systems is the M-pesa or mobile payment system developed in Kenya. How can the youth use the West’s technological advances and the East’s manufacturing prowess to develop Africa’s talents? In this talk, the speaker used financial services as a case to discuss ways that Africa can enter a new phase of growth through innovative capital formation systems and entrepreneurship.
